Braunschweiger

I've decided to dedicate my next few posts to friends - specifically the ones that are presently and actively encouraging me and adding to the person that I am. My last post was dedicated to Jean O'Deens. This one is dedicated to my wonderfully supportive, funny and out-of-the-box friends, Matt & Alicia DeWever.

I was trying to convince them on the phone tonight to blog more often about the small things (like how they encountered a closed road the other day that other cars were driving through, or that their basement smells like skunk for no apparent reason, or that between the two of them they are consuming two packages of refrigerator Halloween cookies in the shapes of ghosts and pumpkins - all worthwhile posts).

So, this post is in their honor and is about the small things in life that usually go unmentioned. Here goes:

This evening, I went to a new Christian bookstore and cafe in Berlin called "Connections." I went with two friends and we met up with another (new) friend who is also the manager of the bookstore. We sat in the cafe and talked for about 2 hours and somewhere in the course of the conversation someone brought up Braunschweig, Germany. I found out it's a town, but when I heard the name, I recognized it. I've heard the word before, but I couldn't place it. Somehow I thought there might be a food called Braunschweiger, but no one knew. So tonight I called my good friends Matt & Alicia and out of the blue Alicia mentioned finding Braunschweiger in the grocery store today!!! What are the odds that Braunschweiger gets mentioned twice in the same day?! I looked it up on Wikipedia and apparently it's: "a type of liverwurst that is nearly always smoked." Who knew? Thanks, Matt & Alicia, for the idea for this random post and keep posting! If you want to read an entertaining blog, check out http://thedewevers.blogspot.com/.
