It's 12:40am in Berlin. I just got off the phone with my "Oma" (adopted grandma). We talked for close to two hours and I desperately needed it! Jean O'Deens, or "Oma" as we in Berlin call her, is a missionary with her husband Dan, but due to old age and recent knee-replacement surgery, she's done now. She has to stay home while he ministers at home and abroad. She's sad about that, but boy is she still ministering! She listened to me pour my heart out tonight about the ministry, the team here in Berlin and personal battles - but what's greater is that she truly understands. She and Dan have spent considerable time ministering with us here in Berlin. She knows what I'm talking about and she cares about our "problems" as much as I do, maybe more. She's a dear, dear woman of God and I'm lucky to have her love. My goal though isn't to bring glory to Jean O'Deens. She ended our conversation by praying and crying (literally) to God for me and for Team Berlin. It's funny. The stuff she prayed about is heavy. I should've hung up the phone feeling depressed. Instead, a song popped into my head. It's an old chorus that we used to sing at GARBC Youth Days. Here are the words:
He is able, more than able, to accomplish what concerns me today.
He is able, more than able, to handle anything that comes my way.
He is able, more than able, to do much more than I could ever dream!
He is able, more than able, to make me what He wants me to be.
And He is. Praise God.
Today (2 days later), I got this unbelievable e-mail from "Oma":
This is so like the Lord . . . after our talk, one of my Bible Study gals was at the door. "I need to talk," she said, so she came in crying and heavy hearted. Then half an hour later, Cynthia - another gal from Bible Study - called on the phone while Shelly was still here, and she said, "Hey, I have a key lime pie. Put the coffee on. I'll be right there, I need to talk."......So the three of us talked, but the funny part is this: When I finally got to bed at midnight or so, I laid there and the Lord brought to my mind this old old chorus called "He is Able"......what a hoot! Only this one is different than yours:
He is Able; He is Able, I know He is able, I know the Lord is able to carry me thru.
He healed the broken hearted, He set the captive free,
He made the lame to walk again, and He caused the blind of see.
He's able, He's able, I know He's able
I know MY LORD is able to carry me thru!
Now isn't that funny that He would give you and me the same song to sing? He is so FAITHFUL, and I'm praying for you, love you tons and tons. Oma
