“Wendell Kempton served Christ as a leader of global Great Commission ministry. His passion for God and love for people caused him to be used of God in the lives of multiplied thousands through the years,” said Baptist Bible College & Seminary President Jim Jeffery. The greatest and most life-changing sermons don't come from a pulpit. More often, they're observed rather than heard. The greatest sermon I've "heard" lately is the one Dr. Wendell Kempton is still preaching in his death. The sermon is entitled "Live for God so utterly and completely that there isn't time for anything else!" His life will continue to cry this out if we are willing to continue to listen to him and others like him.
So often I talk to students and friends about how to defeat sin. The answer is simply this: Live for God every second of every day and there won't be any time left for anything else. In the words of my friend Joe Knable: "We're never idle. We're either running after sin, or running after Christ and His righteousness." There are only two pursuits in life.
“Wendell Kempton served Christ as a leader of global Great Commission ministry. His passion for God and love for people caused him to be used of God in the lives of multiplied thousands through the years." I want this to be said of me! I want it to be said of you too.

When I think of Wendell Kempton, my memories go back to when Karolyn was alive, and I attended a bridal shower at their home. The special dessert for the shower was clay pots filled with cake mix, and then baked in the oven. Artificial flowers were "planted" in the pot.
I believe that it was Judy Jessup's shower, who was marrying Tom Hermann. I had known Judy while attending Omaha Baptist Bible College, and we both ended up at Clarks Summit.
I remember Wendy attending my Bible Club that was held at the Collins' house. That was just before I graduated in 1972. The Collins and their daughter Rhonda were killed soon after graduation in a headon crash. Their 2 sons, who both had eye problems, survived, and went to the road to try to flag someone down. When rescue workers first arrived Rhonda was still alive in the infant seat in the front seat area. But she died before they could get to her.
After my pastor's wife had told me of their deaths, I had dream about Mrs. Collins telling me that they weren't really dead, but were living a life with no pain and were well with the Lord.
There were many special people at BBC that meant so much to me. There were 3 of us who Mrs. Pickering called the Troublesome Trio, Alethia Delorme, Henrietta Calkins (who died in 1988 of a brain aneurism :-( ) and me, Pat Kellogg. We would take breaks in the afternoon from studying, and would make the rounds of faculty offices and the secretaries' areas.
Dr. Pickering, Dr. Jacobs, Dr. Bancroft, Mr. and Mrs. Vanderveld and others have gone before us, along with Karolyn and Wendell Kempton. As I hear of these beloved ones passing away, my time at BBC is fresh in my mind.
I am glad I have been able to write to Alethia Lossing in Peru in instant messages, sharing our memories of BBC and faculty and staff.
